QRM Number

The QRM number is a metric that allows you to track improvements in MCT over time.

It is defined as:

QRM Number = 100 x ( Base Period MCT / Current Period MCT)

So, the initial QRM Number score is 100, and as the MCT get shorter, the QRM number increases.

Use the QRM number rather than the raw MCT evolution has a couple of advantages:

  • From a motivational perspective, people get more enthusiastic about an upward curve (QRM Number) rather than a downward curve (MCT reduction).

  • Over time, further reductions in MCT get harder but even small improvements in MCT get ‘amplified’ in the QRM number.

  • As the QRM number is expressed as a number it normalizes improvements and it becomes easier to compare MCT improvements across departments.
